Cheap flights to Larnaca Cyprus have become more of a reality in the last few years, with the introduction of big budget airlines such as Easy Jet. There's no doubt that this will improve with the completion of the new airport expansion at Larnaca Airport.
The magnificent Island of Cyprus is serviced by 3 International Airports, Larnaca, Paphos and Ercan. However, Larnaca International Airport is Cyprus's main international gateway and the largest of the 3 airports.
Larnaca airport is positioned on the South East of the Island and provides good access to the resort of Larnaca itself as well as resorts further afield, such as Protaras and Ayia Napa. An alternative option would be Paphos international airport situated on the South West of the Island. Close to Paphos itself and close proximity to the tourist resorts on the South West. Last but not least is the increasingly popular Ercan Airport. This is located in Northern Cyprus (Turkish occupied) and all flights to Ercan Airport fly via Turkey, due to the current political situation.
Larnaca Airport is about to get even bigger and better, with the introduction of the new passenger terminal opening on November 11, 2009. The second phase of the expansion is due to be complete in 2013. It is supposed to be the largest construction contract carried out in the Republic of Cyprus. It promises a new passenger terminal building, new runway extensions and exceptional facilities.
More than 33 airlines currently operate scheduled flights to and from Larnaca Airport. And another 2 airlines currently joined ranks in July 2009. Fly Baboo, a Swiss carrier and the Greek Astra Airways. With the airport expansion underway, the number of airlines flying in and out of Larnaca is sure to increase as well as more cheap flights to Larnaca Cyprus. As a guideline, it's around a 4 hour, 30 minute journey from the UK to Larnaca.
